Dr Maria Baker gave an inspirational kōrero to empower all Māori kaimahi to continue being authentically Māori and staying strong in this kaupapa. She has over two decades of expertise in the development and delivery of healthcare, mental health, organisational and workforce development. Maria earned her PhD in Māori Health by developing the theory 'Seeking Solutions to Being Restricted' to reveal how Māori manage mental distress and mental health services. Dr Maria Baker is currently the CEO of Te Hiku Hauora, a Māori Community Health Care Organisation in Muriwhenua.
